Dr. Douglas Murray, professor of English, spoke at the AGM of the Jane Austen Society of North America meeting in Washington, DC on October 22. This year’s conference theme was Austen’s novel Emma, and Murray’s talk combined archival research with a cultural geography approach to the text. The title of the presentation was “The True Story of Box Hill, or What’s a Nice Girl Like Emma Doing in a Place Like That?”
