Rising Belmont junior and member of the Bruins baseball team Josh Moffitt was named the Pitcher of the Week for the south division of the Valley League this week. In his only start, he pitched six innings, struck out 11 batters and allowed just four hits, earning the win.
The win was Moffitt’s third of the summer and lowered his earned run average (ERA) to 2.74 in 46 innings. Teammate Eric Diaz, also a rising junior at Belmont, has compiled a 2-0 record out of the team’s bullpen, with 20 strikeouts and a 1.78 ERA in 25 innings of work this summer.
Moffitt had a 3.90 ERA with Belmont in 2006 with team highs in wins (five) and strikeouts (64). Moffitt’s Waynesboro Generals won the division with a 27-15 record and will face fourth-seeded Staunton in the first round of the Valley League playoffs.
Moffitt, a Goodlettsville, Tenn., native is majoring in math and physics at Belmont.
