The Spring Back Recycling project through ENACTUS and Susan Williams have been nominated in different categories for the 12th and Broad awards, and both are listed on the final ballots. There is online voting, and the winners in each category will be featured in the January magazine.
Professor Emerita of Management Williams is nominated in the Educator/Mentor category, described as “a person who inspired, taught and mentored a sizable number of others in the local community to be their personal and professional best. They might be a teacher, preacher, guru, coach, consultant, instructor, etc.”
Spring Back Recycling seeks to offer disenfranchised men transitional, earned-income and employment opportunities and to create a recycling alternative to repurposing or landfilling used mattresses and box springs. The business was started by Belmont Enactus in 2010, and is nominated under the Social Enterprise category. To date, more than 3.7 millions pound of mattresses have been recycled through this social enterprise.
