Belmont alumna Lisa Williams, who received a B.A. in English in 1989, recently published a new book of poetry, Woman Reading to the Sea, which was selected by Joyce Carol Oates for the 2007 Barnard Women Poets Prize. In 2004, Williams was awarded the Rome Prize in Literature by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She is currently associate professor of English at Centre College in Danville, Ky., and a Centre Scholar. The Tennessean recently did an interview with the Nashville native, which can be read here. Williams will return to her hometown in mid-October to participate in the Southern Festival of Books.
