Nashville-based Bridgestone/Firestone has established a new Bridgestone/Firestone Public Affairs Scholarship at Belmont University, a $2,500 scholarship to be awarded annually eacj fall to the public affairs student who demonstrates academic excellence, campus service, and professionalism. The recipient, a full-time junior or senior, will be selected through With an open, competitive application process by the Media Studies Department Chair and the Public Relations Program Director in consultation with officials at Bridgestone/Firestone, based on academic criteria, internship experience, references, participation in career-building activities and demonstrated professionalism in the classroom, campus, and community.

Finance Students Place in Stock Market Challenge
On Thursday, October 6, five finance students from Belmont University won 3rd place against 19 local firms in the first annual Fifth Third Bank Stock Market Challenge to Benefit Junior Achievement. The students were Ben Bates, Joe Drake, Ben Feller, Patrick Linton, and Megan Whalen. In thirty trading sessions that lasted only 80 seconds each, the students turned $500,000 into a portfolio worth $6.2 million for an amazing return of 1140%.
Women in Higher Education in Tennessee
LaKiesha Armstrong, Jennifer Wetzel, Angie Bryant, Susan West, and Deborah Nunn represented Belmont University at the 25th Annual Conference of Women in Higher Education in Tennessee (WHET). The mission of WHET is to identify, develop, and provide leadership opportunities for all women in higher education in Tennessee.

Bradshaw Sings Anthem at Steelers Game
Rachel Bradshaw, the daughter of Steelers Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, will sing the national anthem at Sunday’s Steelers game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rachel Bradshaw currently attends Belmont University where she is majoring in Commercial Vocal Performance. She is working with Shane Minor, who writes for EMI and other music labels, and is pursuing a career in country music. – Steelers.com.
Music Row tunesmiths to help Belmont offer major
Today’s Tennessean newspaper reports: Belmont teamed up with two local songwriter groups – the Nashville Songwriters Foundation and the Nashville Songwriters Association International – yesterday to announce that they would begin working together to develop an accredited undergraduate songwriting degree program and to establish a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on or near the university’s campus. … If the partnership leads to a full-fledged songwriting major, it would be one of the few such degree programs in the country. – Read the whole story on page one of today’s Tennessean, or online here. Dr. Deborah Nunn, Director of Organizational Development, represented Belmont University by presenting “Strategic HR 2010 — What Lies Ahead and How to Engage in It” at the College and University Professional Association – Human Resources (CUPA-HR) National Conference in Orlando on September 26, 2005.
Founded in 1946, CUPA-HR serves more than 6,500 human resource (HR) administrators at nearly 1,600 colleges and universities.
Belmont chief details plans for growth
