Belmont Connections with Song Climbing Charts

Ashley Gorley, adjunct instructor of Music Business, has a song currently climbing the charts. Ashley’s song, “Don’t Forgot to Remember Me,” performed by Carrie Underwood, went #1 last week on the R&R chart. A co-writer of the song, Kelley Lovelace, is also a Belmont alumna.

Alumnus on HGTV

Rick Kelly, Music Business alumnus, will be hosting the New York portion of a new television series on HGTV titled “My House is Worth What?” In each episode a homeowner walks Rick through their apartment or townhouse and he points out the positive and negative features of the home, building, and neighborhood. At the end of each segment he gives the owner a realistic sales price for the home as it is, and with some recommended improvements. The show airs on Wednesday evenings at 10:30 p.m./et. Rick is Vice President of Prudential Douglas Elliman in NY.

Former Faculty Honored by American Physical Therapy Association

Dr. David G. Greathouse, former professor and chair of the School of Physical Therapy, was recently honored with the Catherine Worthingham Fellows of the American Physical Therapy Association. This award is the highest offered to a physical therapist by the APTA.

Stephanie Babb, Human Resources Generalist in Belmont’s Department of Human Resources, was recently featured in the Middle Tennessee Society for Human Resource Management newsletter. To read the article, click here.

Jamie Shaffer, assistant director of residence life at Belmont University, was interviewed by The Tennessean for an article discussing decorating and shopping for living in on-campus housing. Click here to read the story.

Belmont Launches Scarlett Leadership Institute

The Nashville Business Journal reported on the launch of the Scarlett Leadership Institute at Belmont University. The new program is custom-built around the leadership development concerns of 50 prominent CEOs.
Joe Scarlett, the former CEO of Tractor Supply Co., funded and facilitated the institute. Other local business leaders taking part in the program include Chairman of Belmont’s Board of Trustees Marty Dickens at Bellsouth, Mike Edwards at First Tennessee, Stan Hardway of Hardway Construction and Bill Sheriff from American Retirment Corp.
In an inaugural, five-day retreat, participants will participate in workshops, discussions and panels on topics such as work/life balance, ethics and communication. Mary Fink, an instructor at Belmont’s Center for Professional Development, will direct the institute.

Cusic and Moser Quoted

Don Cusic and David Moser, faculty members in the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business, were interviewed by the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Ind., in an article concerning concert booking in a popular theatre in Fort Wayne. Click here to read the story.

Moffitt Named Pitcher of the Week

moffittstory.jpgRising Belmont junior and member of the Bruins baseball team Josh Moffitt was named the Pitcher of the Week for the south division of the Valley League this week. In his only start, he pitched six innings, struck out 11 batters and allowed just four hits, earning the win.
The win was Moffitt’s third of the summer and lowered his earned run average (ERA) to 2.74 in 46 innings. Teammate Eric Diaz, also a rising junior at Belmont, has compiled a 2-0 record out of the team’s bullpen, with 20 strikeouts and a 1.78 ERA in 25 innings of work this summer.
Moffitt had a 3.90 ERA with Belmont in 2006 with team highs in wins (five) and strikeouts (64). Moffitt’s Waynesboro Generals won the division with a 27-15 record and will face fourth-seeded Staunton in the first round of the Valley League playoffs.
Moffitt, a Goodlettsville, Tenn., native is majoring in math and physics at Belmont.

Music Business Professor Volman Talks About Life in Pop Music

Mark Volman, a professor in the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business, was recently profiled in the Treasure Coast Palm about his life as a member of the ’60s pop band, The Turtles (“So Happy Together”), and Frank Zappa’s band, Mothers of Invention, in the ’70s. Belmont Faculty Quoted in The Tennessean

Two Belmont faculty members were recently quoted in separate stories in The Tennessean. Dr. Andi Stepnick, chair of the sociology department, was interviewed for a story that ran in the Sunday edition of the paper about the rising popularity of family reunions.
Jose Gonzalez, an adjunct entrepreneurship instructor in Belmont’s College of Business Administration, was quoted in a story that ran Monday. Gonzalez spoke about the popularity of certain types of businesses on Nashville’s Nolensville Road.
