Ames’ Piece Featured on Publisher’s Web Site

“Gloria Fanfare,” a piece written by Director of Choral Activities Dr. Jeffery Ames and performed by Belmont’s ensembles, is now being featured on Ames’ publisher’s Web site. Two Belmont Men’s Golfers Names All-American Scholars

Two Belmont golfers, Scott O’Brien and Dan Smith were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholars as the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2010 honorees on Thursday. Belmont Partners with ETSU, Memphis for Debate Watch Parties

DebateLogo.jpgIn anticipation of The 2010 Statewide Debate being held in the Curb Event Center July 12, Belmont University is partnering with East Tennessee State University and the University of Memphis to enable debate watch parties on those campuses. Political science students from each of the universities will gather to view and discuss the debate.
The 2010 Statewide Debate is being co-hosted by Belmont University and Nashville’s WSMV-TV and being aired by affiliates across the state. Belmont and WSMV-TV have joined forces to present two debates preceding the election of Tennessee’s next governor. The primary debate will occur on Mon., July 12 from 7-8 p.m., four days prior to early voting. Jackson businessman Mike McWherter, U.S. Representative Zach Wamp, Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey have all agreed to participate in the primary debate. Click here for more information on the debate.

Rogers, Rochford Selected for Leadership Nashville

Belmont’s Vice President for Administration and Legal Counsel Jason Rogers and Coordinator of Student Activities Sarah Rochford have each been selected to participate in Leadership Nashville’s 2010-11 class. Out of 230 applications just 44 were chosen for the competitive program run by a local non-profit that exposes local leaders to a broad and in-depth view of their communities. In the course of the program, the group will hear from about 125 speakers and make on-site visits to business, non-profit and government offices while addressing issues such as crime, affordable housing, school finances, racial tensions, transportation and arts funding.

Phi Kappa Tau Chapter Selected as Award Finalist

The Phi Kappa Tau chapter at Belmont University was once again selected as a finalist for organization’s highest national award, the Maxwell Award. The chapter has been selected as a finalist after an extensive year of reporting and applications. Members will be presenting with four or five competing chapters at the national convention in Denver this weekend to win the highest award for Phi Kappa Tau collegiate chapters.

Belmont Honored with EMT Product Expertise Award

hobsons.jpgBelmont University was honored with the EMT Product Expertise award at the 2010 Hobsons Connect U Conference on June 30. This award recognizes Belmont’s expert knowledge and application of the Hobsons’ Enrollment Management Technology solutions. This includes several technologies employed by Belmont including Connect, Graduate Connect, Retain, ApplyYourself, BU4U and AskBU. Lougan Bishop, Anne Edmunds, Laura Merkle and Lisa Malone accepted the award on behalf of the university.

Three Women’s Golfers Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

Three Belmont women’s golfers–Kelly Maguigan, Jennifer Newman and Janet Steen–have been named to the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar-Athlete Team. This marks the fifth straight season that Belmont has had a women’s golfer named to this prestigious team. Click here for more on this story.

Senior Bikes Across Country for Flood Relief

Belmont senior Daniel Finney is biking with a friend across the country this summer to raise support and awareness for Graceworks Ministries, which is helping Nashville residents whom the floods have made homeless. Click here to read the story from a Minnesota newspaper covering the duo’s trek.

Grammer Quoted in Tennessean

Dr. Robert Grammer, associate dean of the School of Sciences, was interviewed and quoted in an article in the July 2, 2010 issue of the The Tennessean. The article was titled ‘New Biology’ wants students excelling in multiple fields, and it discusses the need for interdisciplinary studies in science in the 21st Century.
