School of Music’s Annual Showcase Set

Poster.JPGThe Belmont University School of Music presents its annual Commercial Music Showcase February 2, featuring five of the School of Music’s best student performers. The 2004 Commercial Music Showcase is scheduled for 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2, in the Massey Concert Hall on the Belmont University campus, located at 1900 Belmont Boulevard in Nashville. The Showcase is open to the public free of charge. VIP reserved parking is available for press and music industry personnel by calling 460-8115.

Early last fall, all students in the Commercial Music program, designed for students who wish to study contemporary/non-classical styles of music, were invited to audition for the five spots in the Showcase. With the help of Belmont’s Commercial Advisory Panel and the Board members of the Friends of the School of Music, a panel of distinguished judges was assembled to choose from among the nearly 100 hopefuls. Judges included music publishers, songwriters, managers, agents and local artists. They chose five exceptional singer/songwriters to represent the School of Music in its only annual showcase:
BrieAnna Eklund, Pop/Rock
Sara Beth Geoghegan, Pop/Contemporary Christian
Ryan Greenawalt, Gospel
Carrie Hickman, Country/Pop
Sarah Peacock, Pop/Rock/Contemporary Christian
Every one of these students is a unique talent, indicative of the broad range of Belmont’s Commercial Music program. Each student will perform two songs, and many of the selections are original compositions. The concert also features the best of the School of Music’s background vocalists, instrumentalists and crew. All of the music charts for the concert have been arranged by the students of Belmont’s composition and arranging classes.
The Belmont University School of Music offers a comprehensive curriculum in diverse musical styles for students of all ages, including bachelor
