Nashville Business Leader Clyde Ingalls Joins Belmont as New Associate VP for Development

ingalls01.jpgBelmont University announces that longtime Nashville business executive Clyde F. Ingalls, who most recently served for nine years as president of First Tennessee Banks of Middle Tennessee, has accepted the position of Associate Vice President and Director of Development at Belmont University. Since retiring last year from First Tennessee Banks of Middle Tennessee, Mr. Ingalls has taught as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business at Belmont. He is a founding Board member of the Belmont University Center for Business Ethics.


Mr. Ingalls held numerous leadership positions in banking prior to becoming President of First Tennessee Banks of Middle Tennessee. In addition to his banking career, Mr. Ingalls has an impressive record as a community leader. He is a past Board Chair of the PENCIL Foundation and of the Oasis Center Inc., an alumnus of the Leadership Nashville program, and currently serves on the advisory board for the Center for Business Ethics.
“Clyde Ingalls’ experience with non-profits, his proven leadership abilities, his experience with key processes of development and advancement, his ability to get the job done, and his passion for the academic community, particularly Belmont, make him perfectly suited for the job,” said Belmont University Vice President for University Advancement Bo Thomas. “We are most fortunate to be able to attract Clyde to this position.”
Mr. Ingalls says Belmont University is the right place for him after leaving the banking industry. “As a parent of a Belmont graduate and an instructor and volunteer for the university, I have learned that Belmont is a unique and special community,” Mr. Ingalls said. “I am very excited about this opportunity to participate in Belmont’s mission.”
Mr. Ingalls will begin working full time at Belmont on August 15.
About Clyde Ingalls
Mr. Ingalls served in leadership of the First Tennessee Banks in Middle Tennessee from 1986 until his retirement as Metropolitan Regional President of the company’s middle Tennessee commercial and retail banking franchise in 2003. Prior to moving to Middle Tennessee, he was manager of First Tennessee’s Southern Division in Memphis and the Corporate Banking Division in Nashville. Clyde joined First Tennessee in 1980 after 11 years with Trust Company Bank in Atlanta, predecessor to SunTrust Banks.
Mr. Ingalls is a graduate of the Georgia State University School of Business and has participated in the continuing education activities offered by the banking industry at many schools and seminars throughout his career. He has served on the faculty of the Tennessee Bankers Association Commercial Lending School, the Mid-South School of Banking, and has been an instructor for the American Institute of Banking.
Mr. Ingalls has served as a volunteer board member with various Nashville community organizations including the Nashville Symphony, March of Dimes, the Nashville Institute for the Arts, Tennessee Repertory Theatre, and Cumberland Region Tomorrow. In addition, he has been a fundraiser for several organizations including the United Way and the Massey Associates of the Belmont University School of Business. He has served as president of the Board of Oasis Center and Board Chair of the PENCIL Foundation for Metropolitan Nashville public schools.
Clyde and his wife, Betsy, live in Franklin, Tennessee, where they are active in civic and church activities.
