Boulevard: The Art of Business

BoulevardOpening02s.JPGNashville City Paper takes a look at Boulevard, the new student-operated art gallery and design studio at Belmont University, from the perspective of how it will help art students learn the business side of the art business.

Design communications major Erica Rudy, Boulevard’s design director, and studio art major Kaytie Seela, the gallery director, are two of the students that got the ball rolling on the project.
“It opened my eyes to just how much work operating a business would be,” Rudy said. “I am an artist, and although business is not foreign to me, I had never experienced financial forecasting and things like that.
BoulevardOpening01s.JPG“Hopefully this will be a permanent business. This is such a huge opportunity for the students to be exposed to a live gallery to see if their stuff will sell, to develop a relationship with a gallery, to put together a professional portfolio – to learn the whole business end – so that when they do graduate they will already have that background.”
