Blonde Ambition – San Jose Mercury News

roberts.jpgJulie Roberts spent years sitting at a desk at Mercury Records in Nashville listening to executives talk about such superstars as Shania Twain and Terri Clark. Now those same executives are talking about her. Thanks to the chart-topping country single “Break Down Here,” Roberts is perhaps the hottest young star in Mercury’s Nashville stable. “Every day I have to pinch myself because every day brings something new that I’ve always wanted to do,” the 26-year-old vocalist says by phone from Nashville. “I’m very, very fortunate.” However, this Cinderella story took some time before it got pinch-worthy.


Roberts, the daughter of an engineer and an accountant, grew up in Lancaster, S.C., with the dream of being a country singer. She chose to attend Nashville’s Belmont University because it put her in the heart of Music City and she later took a job with Mercury.
