Austin Earns National Academic Award

austin_asun1.gifBelmont rising senior Kate Austin has been named to the All-American Scholar Team as announced by the National Golf Coaches Association Monday morning. It is the first time that a Belmont golfer has been honored with this award.
Austin was among 371 women’s golfers from NCAA Division I, II and III to be recognized for this prestigious honor. She was also one of just three golfers from the Atlantic Sun Conference to be selected. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
The Brentwood, Tenn., native finished third on the team in scoring this past season with an 81.8 average in 23 competitive rounds. She posted four top-20 finishes, including a season-beat tie for 15th place at the APSU Intercollegiate last October. Austin is currently pursuing a degree in entrepreneurship.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents over 400 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
