Speech & Debate Team Excels at Two Tourneys

Belmont’s Speech and Debate Team competed in two tournaments over three days at Tennessee State University during Belmont’s fall break.
The Third Annual Music City Invitational Tournament proved successful for the team. McKinley Belcher, a junior, placed fifth in the poetry competition and also took fifth in duo interpretation with partner Ryan Greenawalt, senior. The team competed aginst students from schools such as University of Alabama and Western Kentucky University.


The second tournament of the weekend, the Masquerade Ball, once again proved successful for Belcher and Greenawalt. Belcher placed fifth in poetry while Greenawalt took third. The duo once again placed fifth in duo interpretation. Greenawalt also won second place overall in pentathlon, an award for competitors who compete in five or more events.
The speech and debate team will travel to Berea, Ky., Nov. 19-21, for their next competiton at Berea College.
