Belmont Speech Team Wins 1st at Nationals

By over 100 points, the Belmont University Speech and Debate Team won first place in speech team sweeps at the National Christian College Forsenics Invititional at John Brown University. The team won third place overall. The team competed March 18 – 20 in Siloam Springs, Ark. Here is the breakdown of results:
Debate:
Sarah Friederich, Renee Ryle and Price Rainer were quarterfinalists.
Prince Rainer won 9th place in novice speaker awards.
Speech:
McKinley Belcher – Faith Literature 3rd, Prose 3rd, Poetry 1st,
Dramatic Interpretation 1st, Overall Speaker Award – 1st
Kristen Taylor – Faith Literature 2nd, Prose 2nd, After Dinner
Speaking 1st, Poetry 3rd, Overall Speaker Award – 2nd
Belcher and Taylor – 4th place in Dramatic Duo Interpretation
Chasity Gunn – Persuasion 4th, Dramatic Interpretation 4th, Progam of
Oral Interpretation 2nd place, Overall Speaker Award – 4th
Tabitha Metcalf – After Dinner Speaking 3rd, Progam of Oral
Interpretation 6th, Overall Speaker Award – 6th
Reader’s Theatre – 2nd place (Belcher, Taylor, Gunn, Metcalf)
Cortni Woodard – Impromptu 7th
Jonathan Guenther – After Dinner Speaking – 6th
Melanie Bengston – Faith Literature (novice) 6th, Communication
Analysis 1st (novice) 3rd (open), Extemp 4th, Informative (novice)
1st. Overall Speaker Award (novice) – 3rd
Price Rainer – Faith Literature (novice) 4th, Extemperaneous 5th
