Belmont Class Plans “Day of Hope”Recruiting Volunteers for American Cancer Society

Students in Dr. Cynthia McGovern’s Organizational Leadership and Communication Class at Belmont University have dedicated December 4 as a “Day of Hope,” and will be fanning out across the Nashville area to recruit volunteers for the American Cancer Society.
“Here at Belmont we value real-world experiences and we feel that it is important to give back to our community,” says McGovern, faculty sponsor for A Day of Hope. “This project provides the students with a true opportunity for leadership that will give them an understanding beyond the classroom or any textbook – plus it gives us a chance to help the American Cancer Society to accomplish its mission.”

“With the opening of the Hope Lodge here in Nashville, the need for volunteers is greater than ever,” says McGovern. “We are urging people to give the gift of time this holiday season sign up to volunteer with the American Cancer Society.”
About Hope Lodge
The American Cancer Society’s Memorial Foundation Hope Lodge, a housing facility for cancer patients and their caregivers, began accepting guests in September. Located near downtown Nashville, Hope Lodge offers free lodging, counseling and referral services to any adult receiving outpatient cancer treatment in Nashville. It has 41 rooms, a common kitchen area, dining and exercise rooms and recreation areas. The Memorial Foundation helped fund its construction, and the American Cancer Society is still raising money to support the Hope Lodge.
